| Salary | Income tax | LITO | Medicare | Take-home a year | A fortnight | Super on top |

| $75,000 | $13,020.00 | $0 | $1,500.00 | $60,480.00 | $2,326.15 | $9,000 |
| $100,000 | $20,520.00 | $0 | $2,000.00 | $77,480.00 | $2,980.00 | $12,000 |
| $150,000 | $36,570.00 | $0 | $3,000.00 | $110,430.00 | $4,247.31 | $18,000 |
| $200,000 | $55,870.00 | $0 | $4,000.00 | $140,130.00 | $5,389.62 | $24,000 |
Example with HELP: on $100,000 the 2026-27 study loan repayment is 15c for each dollar over $69,528, so (100,000 − 69,528) × 15% = $4,570.80. That takes the year's take-home pay to $72,909.20.
Example working ($60,000): tax = $4,020 + 30% × (60,000 − 45,000) = $8,520. LITO = $325 − 1.5c × (60,000 − 45,000) = $100. Medicare = 2% × 60,000 = $1,200. Take-home = 60,000 − 8,520 + 100 − 1,200 = $50,380.
2026-27 rates used
| Taxable income | Tax on this income (residents, 2026-27) |
|---|---|
| $0 – $18,200 | Nil |
| $18,201 – $45,000 | 15c for each $1 over $18,200 |
| $45,001 – $135,000 | $4,020 plus 30c for each $1 over $45,000 |

- Medicare levy: 2% of taxable income. Singles pay none up to $28,011, then 10c per dollar above that until the full 2% applies, just above $35,013. These are the latest thresholds the ATO has published (labelled 2025-26). The 2026-27 thresholds are normally set in the following Budget and usually rise slightly, which would lower the levy for low incomes only.
- Low income tax offset: $700 up to $37,500, reducing by 5c per dollar to $45,000, then 1.5c per dollar until it runs out at $66,667. It can reduce tax to zero but can't be refunded or used against the Medicare levy.
- Study and training loans (2026-27): nil up to $69,528; 15c per $1 above that to $129,717; $9,028 plus 17c per $1 above $129,717 to $186,050; 10% of all repayment income from $186,051.
- Super guarantee: 12%, paid by your employer on top of your salary (not taken out of it).

FAQ
How much is $100,000 after tax in Australia in 2026-27?
About $77,480 a year ($2,980 a fortnight) for a resident with no HELP debt: $20,520 income tax plus $2,000 Medicare levy. Your employer also pays $12,000 super on top. With a HELP debt, take-home falls to about $72,909.
What are the tax rates for 2026-27?
For Australian residents: nil to $18,200, 15% to $45,000, 30% to $135,000, 37% to $190,000 and 45% above, plus the 2% Medicare levy. The bottom rate fell from 16% to 15% on 1 July 2026.
Is super included in my salary?
Usually not. Most jobs quote a base salary and the employer pays 12% super on top. If your offer says the package includes super, tick that box and the calculator splits it into salary and super (package ÷ 1.12).
Why is the tax withheld from my pay different from my actual tax?
Employers use the ATO’s withholding formulas, which approximate the year’s tax pay by pay. The low income tax offset and some rounding are only settled when you lodge your return, so many people on lower incomes get a small refund.
How much HELP will I repay in 2026-27?
Nothing below $69,528 of repayment income. Above that, it’s 15c for each dollar over $69,528 up to $129,717, then $9,028 plus 17c per dollar to $186,050, and 10% of all repayment income above that. On $100,000 that’s $4,570.80.
Do I pay the Medicare levy on a low income?
Singles pay no Medicare levy on taxable income up to $28,011, then 10c per dollar above that until it reaches the full 2% just above $35,013 (latest published thresholds). Families have higher thresholds, which aren’t included here.
How is an hourly rate converted to a yearly salary?
Hourly rate × hours per week × 52. For example, $40 an hour for 38 hours a week is $79,040 a year. Casual loading and overtime aren’t added automatically, so include them in the rate if they apply.
