Fill it in below, then print it or save it as a PDF. It's pre-filled with typical handyman line items (example prices only: replace them with yours). It adds GST at 10% if you're registered and switches the heading to "Invoice" with a no-GST line if you're not. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

What a handyman invoice should show
Handyman visits are usually several small jobs. One invoice per visit, one line per task, with your minimum charge and time rounding stated, is the clearest format for customers.
Line-item wording you can borrow
Specific descriptions get paid faster than "labour and materials". Examples for handymen and odd-job businesses:
- Minimum call-out charge (includes first hour)
- Re-hang sagging gate and replace hinges
- Patch and paint hole in plasterboard, hallway
- Assemble flat-pack: 1 x wardrobe, 1 x desk
- Replace tap washers, laundry and garden taps
- Install 3 x picture hooks and 1 x TV wall bracket (customer supplied)
- Clean gutters, single-storey house
- Tip run: 1 trailer load including tip fee
If you're registered for GST, a tax invoice for a sale under $1,000 must show: that it's a tax invoice, your identity and ABN, the issue date, a description with quantity and price, the GST (or "Total price includes GST" if GST is exactly 1/11 of the total) and how much of each sale is taxable. From $1,000, add the buyer's identity or ABN. The template covers all of these.
Tips for handymen
- Show your minimum charge and how time is rounded (e.g. per 15 minutes).
- Group the visit: one invoice per visit with each small task on its own line.
- Add a "jobs not done / quoted separately" note if you spot something bigger.
- Give every invoice a unique number (generator) and send it the day the job finishes.
Questions
Should I invoice each small job separately?
Usually one invoice per visit with each task on its own line is clearer for the customer and easier for your records.
Do I need a licence for handyman work?
It depends on the work and your state. Some trades and building work above a set value need a licence. Check your state's building or fair trading regulator.
If the invoice isn't paid
Use a polite, consistent schedule: a heads-up 3 days before the due date, a reminder on the day, then +7, +14 and +30 days. The free reminder email generator writes them, and the late payment interest calculator works out interest if your terms allow it.
